We are incredibly proud to celebrate one of our St. Luke’s alumna, Sadie Bozeman, who is already making a name for herself in the world of science! Now a sophomore at St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge, Sadie is working alongside Dr. Evelyn Watts, a distinguished associate professor and seafood extension specialist with the LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Sea Grant. Through this mentorship, Sadie is taking her passion for science to new levels, diving into impactful research and gaining valuable hands-on experience in a professional laboratory setting.
Sadie’s science fair project, “The Efficacy of Different Common-Use Cleaning Practices in Preventing Cross-Contamination Caused by Microorganism Transfer from Seafood to Food Contact Surfaces,” explores food safety by examining cleaning methods to reduce cross-contamination. Her work with Dr. Watts allows her to test these cleaning practices in a university lab, providing a practical, insightful application of science beyond the classroom.
“I love working with Dr. Watts because of her consistent support with my project and because she has allowed me to have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work in a university lab as a high schooler,” Sadie shared. “Because I have her as my mentor, my research was very hands-on, which gave me a genuine and insightful application of science.”
Sadie’s journey from St. Luke’s student to aspiring scientist at St. Joseph’s Academy reminds us of the incredible things our alumni accomplish and the curiosity and commitment to learning that begins right here at St. Luke’s. We are thrilled to support Sadie’s achievements and can’t wait to see all the great things she will accomplish in her scientific pursuits.
