Enrichments and Electives

Students at St. Luke’s are exposed to a wide range elective and enrichment classes to spark new learning and creativity outside of their core classes. Early childhood and lower school students attend weekly enrichment classes. Middle school students are placed in a different elective class of their choice every quarter, allowing them to discover new interests and passions to continue in high school and beyond.

Visual Arts

From drawing and painting to pottery and sculpture, St. Luke's offers a variety of visual art enrichment and elective classes. Students are inspired to develop artistic skills and to build the confidence for self-expression.

Regular participation with visual art begins in our Early Childhood Program. Our youngest students explore artistic creativity as part of their daily routines and in a weekly art class. Lower school students attend weekly art classes and middle school students have the option to take art as elective. They study elements of art, the influence of the arts on cultures around the world, and the works of famous artists. They learn techniques for painting and using clay along with other media.

St. Luke's began participating in the Debose Fine Arts Competition several years ago. This is a parish-wide competition for students of all grade levels. Our art teacher, Elizabeth Whitley, submits artwork by ten St. Luke's students every year. A total of 16 St. Luke's students have been selected as winners every year since 2020, placing either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. We are incredibly proud of our talented student artists!

Performing Arts, Music and Band

St. Luke's students gain confidence, teamwork, and performance skills through performing arts opportunities beginning in early childhood. Pre-K students put on The Greatest Show on Earth... the annual Pre-K circus! Students in lower school participate in several grade-level productions, such as third grade's Louisiana Play and fifth grade's Passion Play. Musical theater is an elective class offered in middle school. Whether it's playing the lead role, singing solo, or working behind the scenes, students are able to discover and experience the many aspects that go into musical productions. Past performances have included "A Not So Terrible Parable" and "Beauty and the Beast."

Our art teacher, Elizabeth Whitley, was named the 2022 Middle School Art Teacher of the Year by The Louisiana Art Education Association.

Religion

Students attend religion classes once a week. Students develop Biblical literacy through age-appropriate activities, as well as understanding and appreciating other faith traditions. Our emphasis on Biblical virtues helps students develop empathy, respect for others, and a passion for community service. In all that we do we strive to see each child as a unique child of God. We welcome students of all faiths to grow in a safe and loving environment where students are allowed to ask questions, grow in servant leadership, and see the value in who they are.

All students attend weekly Chapel services. Beginning in 5th grade, students are given the opportunity to serve as acolytes, which reinforces leadership skills and public speaking ability. Parents are always welcome to attend and sit with their child.

Our state of the art STEAM lab invites kids to explore and discover new concepts - all while having fun. Early childhood and lower school students have a weekly STEAM class, and middle school students have the option to take STEAM as an elective.
